Narcissus radiiflorus Salisb,, syn.: Narcissus poeticus ssp. radiiflorus (Salisb.) Baker., Narcissus poeticus L. ssp. angustifolius Hegi, Narcissus exsertus Haw., Narcissus stellaris Haw.Pheasant's-eye Narcissus, DE: Stern NarzisseSlo.: gorska narcisa, bedenica, kljuavnicaDat.: May 20. 2016Lat.: 45.92515 Long.: 13.84381Code: Bot_959/2016_DSC2265Picture file names: from _raw_10 to _raw_16.Habitat: moderately dry mountain grassland, locally flat terrain, calcareous ground; sunny, open place; elevation 1.040 m (3.400 feet); average precipitations 1.800 - 2.000 mm/year, average temperature 6-8 deg C; borderline between submediterranean and Dinaric phytogeographical region. Substratum: soil.Place: aven ridge, Mala Gora place, west and central part of the plateau, Trnovski gozd mountains, Vipavsko, Slovenia EC. Comment: Narcissus radiiflorus are wonderful plants. They are for centuries an object of admiration among Slovenian people, which has resulted in over twenty common names known in my county. Their sometimes massive occurrences provide unforgettable vistas. Narcissus radiiflorus is a seriously endangered species in Slovenia. Not so much because of 'lovers' of flowers, who pick them sometimes without any considerations, but because their habitat is disappearing. There are two opposite reasons for that: either mountain grassland is used intensively and fertilized too much (plants are unfortunatelly sensitive to fertilization) or, on the other hand, grassland is abandoned and is gradually overgrown with bushes and trees that is it is on its natural way to become forest.Genus Narcissus is taxonomically a difficult one. Among others, many synonyms for Narcissus radiiflorus prove that. There exist many horticultural varieties developed from these wild plants, which frequently escape gardens. As a result, distinction between Narcissus radiiflorus and similar Narcissus poeticus is sometimes impossible since intermediate plants occur quite often.Protected according to: Uredba o zavarovanih prostoiveih rastlinskih vrstah, poglavje A, Uradni list RS, t. 46/2004 (Regulation of protected wild plants, chapter A, Official Gazette of Republic Slovenia, no. 46/2004), (2004). Pravilnik o uvrstitvi ogroenih rastlinskih in ivalskih vrst v rdei seznam, Uradni list RS, t. 82/2002 (Regulation of enlisting of endangered plant and animal species onto Red List, Official Gazette of Republic Slovenia, no. 82/2002) (2002). Enlisted in the Slovene Red List of rare and endangered species, marked by "V" representing a vulnerable species.Ref.:(1) A. I don't know why I'd assumed this species was exclusively red-flowered. The plants here in La Plata have pink flowers, sometimes with subtle variations in intensity. This is a vulnerable species, so I'm not giving the exact location.

Galanthus nivalis L.Snowdrop, DE: Schneeglckchen, Kleines SchneeglckchenSlo.: navadni mali zvonekDat.: March 7. 2017Lat.: 46.34398 Long.: 13.57456Code: Bot_1036/2017_DSC00236Habitat: broad leaved wood, slightly inclined mountain slope, southeast aspect, relatively warm and humid place, mostly in shade (after tree leaves develop); cretaceous clastic rock (flysh) bedrock; elevation 445 m (1.460 feet); average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 8-10 deg C, alpine phytogeographical region. Substratum: soil.Place: Bovec basin, northeast part, near First World War cemetery, East Julian Alps, Posoje, Slovenia EC.Comment: Year after year I cannot resist photographing this very common but also very beautiful plant. It grows in fields of hundreds and thousands flowers here around. With its tenderness, freshness and elegant simplicity one cannot imagine a better symbol and promise of coming spring time. Its beauty seems to me a derision and revolt against the basic physical law of all material - entropy. What a surplus over bare biological functionality no matter how complex it may be! What an unreasonable abundance and richness is conveyed in these flower fields!Ref.:(1) M.A. Fischer, W. Adler, K.
