Mecistops cataphractus (African Slender Snouted Crocodile) is a species of crocodilians in the family crocodiles. They are listed as critically endangered by IUCN and in cites appendix i. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to Ethiopia. They are nocturnal carnivores. They have parental care (paternal care and female provides care). They rely on swimming to move around.

  • Definition: Appendix I lists species that are the most endangered among CITES-listed animals and plants. They are threatened with extinction and CITES prohibits international trade in specimens of these species except when the purpose of the import is not commercial, for instance for scientific research.
