The closely appressed white hairs on the young growths are a distinctive feature.This species belongs to a fairly homogeneous group of eastern Australian Acacias with persistent bipinnate leaves, which make up the section Botrycephalae. The group includes the species grown for tanbark in Africa, A. mearnsii.
