A tree 4-S m. high, with a trunk-diameter of 1 dm. or more, the bark pale, fissured. Leaves obovate to oblong-obovate, rounded or emarginate at the apex, narrowed or cuneate at the base, 3-7 cm. long, 3 cm. wide or less, firm in texture, dark dull-green above, palegreen beneath, not areolate or but faintly so, not prominently reticulate, the petioles 4-9 mm. long, the stipules lanceolate or subulate-lanceolate with a broad base, 2-4 mm. long ; pedicels fascicled or some of them solitary, shorter than the petioles ; flowers white, about 4 mm. wide; calyx cleft to about the middle, 2 mm. long, its lobes ovate-lanceolate, acute; petals oblong, obtuse, about 3 mm, long, the ligule about one third as long as the blade, the lobes acute ; drupes oblong, red, blunt at each end, somewhat longer than the pedicels.
Type locality : Jamaica.
Distribution : Bahamas ; Jamaica ; Cuba.
