It is native to Minas Gerais, Amapá, Roraima, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Bahia, Alagoas, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Pará, Rio Grande do Norte, Cerrado, Rio de Janeiro, Acre (Brazil), Espirito Santo, Maranhao, Mata Atlântica, Ceará, Goiás, São Paulo, Amazônia, Caatinga, Amazônia, Sergipe, Tocantins, Santa Catarina, and Distrito Federal. Lygodium volubile is a photoautotroph.
