Herbs or shrubs. Leaves alternate. Peduncles lateral or apparently terminal, simple. Capitula heterogamous or homogamous. Phyllaries in 2 series, partly connate (in ours). Calyculus 0. Ray florets female, fertile. Pappus of few to many caducous bristles or 0; bristles flexuous, shortly barbed. Disk florets bisexual, fertile or sterile.
