Tellima breviflora Rydb. sp. nov
Stem none; flowering branches 4-5 dm. high, more or less glandular-hirsute, leafy; petioles of basal leaves 1-1.5 dm. long, reflexed-hirsute ; blades usually cordate, with a deep sinus, 5-8 cm. long, sparingly hirsute, with broadly ovate lobes and teeth; hypanthium glandular-puberulent, campanulate with a turbinate base, about 5 mm. long; sepals oblong, acutish, about 3 mm. long; petals greenishwhite or purplish, the claws broadly cuneate with round lobes at the summit, erect, the blades spreading with a lanceolate body and subulate lobes.
Type collected on Sykes Creek, near Wisner, Oregon, in 1892, by EW. Hammond, no. l28. Distribution : Near streams from British Columbia and Alaska to northern California.

Tiarella alternifolia Fisch. ; Seringe, in DC. Prodr. 4 : 50. 1830.
Main stem none ; flowering branches 3-6 dm. high, hirsute with long hairs, glandular above, leafy ; petioles of basal leaves 1-2 dm. long, hirsute ; blades reniform or cordate, sparingly hirsute, round-lobed and toothed with broadly ovate teeth, 4-10 cm. broad; leaves of the flowering branches short -petioled with more or less developed stipules ; hypanthium glandular-puberulent, cylindro-campanulate with a turbinate base , about 8 mm. long ; sepals ovate, about 3 mm. long ; petals white, purplish or pink ; claws broadly cuneate, 1.5-2 mm. long, erect; blades spreading or reflexed, with a rounded ovate body and subulate-filiform lobes ; ovary adnate to the hypanthium only at the base.
Type locality : On the northwest coast (of America).
