They are native to The Contiguous United States, Western North America, and The Americas. They have simple, broad leaves and orange flowers. Flowers are visited by Chlosyne californica, Acmaeodera latiflava, Apis mellifera, and Eupeodes volucris. Individuals can grow to 5 feet.
