They are native to Ukraine, Tunisia, mediterranean region, Italy, Israel, Algeria, France, Libya, Albania, Spain, Morocco, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Yugoslavia, and Turkey. They have simple, broad leaves and fleshy fruit. Flowers are visited by Bombus terrestris lusitanicus, drone fly, and Scaeva selenitica. Individuals can grow to 5 m.
