It is native to Amazônia, Pampa, Roraima, Espirito Santo, Tocantins, Bahia, Pará, São Paulo, Amazônia, Maranhao, Rondônia, Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Goiás, Mata Atlântica, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio Grande do Norte, Distrito Federal, Pantanal, Cerrado, Minas Gerais, Caatinga, Sergipe, Ceará, Acre (Brazil), Santa Catarina, Amapá, Piauí, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, and Paraíba. Asthmaweed has simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Eretmocera syleuta Meyrick 1926. Asthmaweed is a photoautotroph. Individuals can grow to 0.38 m.
