Cynara cardunculus (Cardoon) is a species of perennial herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to France, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Tunisia, Libya, Yugoslavia, Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Furry Leaf-cutter Bee, European honey bee, Buff-tailed bumblebee, and Battus philenor hirsuta. Individuals can grow to 0.8 m.
