Ternate Chromis

Description: Head and body olivaceous to dark yellowish gray, belly white, scales centers iridescent light blue. A dark brown streak runs along the margin of each caudal fin lobe (Ref. 2334, 90102). Body depth 1.8-1.9 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).

Occurs inshore (Ref. 75154). Recorded as having been or being farmed in rice fields (Ref. 119549). Diurnal species (Ref. 54980, 120737).

Schools are found above branching corals along upper margins of clear lagoon and outer reef slopes. Often associated with branching Acropora. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). 分布於印度-太平洋區，東起紅海和東非，西至美屬薩摩亞與東加， 北至琉球群島，南至新加勒多尼亞。台灣主要分布於南部、小琉球、綠島和蘭嶼等海域。

中小型之雀鯛，可食用，一般不為漁獲對象魚。有人將其作觀賞魚之用。

體呈卵圓形而側扁，標準體長為體高之 1.8-1.9倍。吻圓鈍。眼中大，上側位。口小，上頜骨末端僅及眼前緣；齒細小，圓錐狀。眶下骨裸出；前鰓蓋骨後緣平滑。體被大櫛鱗；側線之有孔鱗片15-16個。背鰭單一，軟條部不延長而略呈角形，硬棘 XII-XIII，軟條10-12；臀鰭硬棘II，軟條11-12；胸鰭鰭條17-19；尾鰭叉形，上下葉末端呈尖形，各具3條硬棘狀鰭條。體橄欖色至深黃灰色，鱗片的中心通常有淺藍色的虹彩；胸鰭基部上緣無小黑斑；尾鰭上下葉各具一暗色縱帶。

主要群集於清澈的潟湖上緣與外礁斜坡區的樹枝狀珊瑚上，棲息深度在2-36公尺間。主要以浮游動物為食，尤其橈腳類的動物。
