Light brown in color with dark spots on sides; fins with dark brown spots; males with black stripes or blotches on 1st dorsal fin, females with black blotch on 3rd membrane (Ref. 4405). Ventral margin of preopercular spine convex (Ref 42832).

Found on sandy and muddy substrate of the coastal area down to a depth of about 100 m (Refs. 5213, 127989). Occasionally visits Posidonia oceanica meadows (Ref. 122772). Feeds on small benthic invertebrates. Clear sexual dimorphism (Ref. 127989).

體延長，縱扁。枕骨區具2個極低的骨質突起。鰓孔背位。前鰓蓋骨強棘為眼徑長之0.91-1.25倍，強棘末端強而平直，腹緣平滑而凸，基部具一強而直的倒棘，背緣具4-9個鋸齒狀之小倒棘。側線從眼延伸至尾鰭第三分支鰭條的末端，具一長的眼後分支，往下延伸，枕骨區及尾柄背部各具一條橫向側線連接體側二側線。雄魚第一背鰭低，但第一棘延長成絲狀，且與餘棘明顯分離；雌魚第一背鰭低，各棘不延長成絲狀，第一棘不與其餘各棘分離；雌、雄魚第二背鰭鰭緣平直或稍凹；背鰭與臀鰭除最後一鰭條外，其餘鰭條均不分叉；胸鰭延伸近臀鰭第二鰭條基部；尾鰭稍延長或圓形，雄魚尾鰭中央具2條絲狀延長。保存標本體色多變，白色、淡棕色至深棕色，背部具許多白點及黑點，側線下方具一列水平之棕斑，喉、頭、體之腹面全為白色；眼深灰色，雄魚眼下具一列深斑及白斑；第一背鰭顏色多變，雌魚通常在第三棘膜具一大黑眼斑，且第二棘膜具小黑點；雄魚在第三及第四棘膜間具一黑眼斑，或此區為黑色，但具一些不規則之白線及白點，而第二棘膜色淡，通常具一些黑點；雌、雄魚第二背鰭透明；臀鰭透明或白色，雄魚鰭緣通常為棕色；尾鰭上2/3處，或全尾鰭具大黑斑。

主要棲息於海岸的砂泥底部區域，向下至深度大約 100 公尺處。以小型底棲的無脊椎動物為食，主要為甲殼動物與蠕蟲。

The Blotchfin dragonet (Callionymus filamentosus) is a species of dragonet native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. It also now occurs in the Mediterranean Sea, where it was first recorded in 1953 off Israel. It has since been observed in Cyprus, Lebanon, Turkey and Rhodes (Greece). This species occurs at depths from 16 to 350 m and can grows to a length of 20 cm.
