Brief Summary
provided by Ecomare
Haddock is a bottom dweller and prefers cold water. It is a noisy fish, particularly when being aggressive or caught. It also makes noise when mating. Young haddock live in the water column where they feed on small larvae floating in the water. When the fish grow older, they move to the sea floor. Here they feed primarily on other bottom dwellers, such as brittle stars and fish. Haddock has a characteristic black spot above the pectoral fin. According to legend, this is the fingerprint of the fisherman Saint Peter.
