Female:
Body long, compact. Cephalothorax has an oval shape in dorsal view, 5-segmented, almost 3 times longer than the abdomen. Rostrum sharp and pointed. 1st thoracic segment is free, but completely covered by extension of the dorsal cephalic shield. Thoracic segmented sometimes have their lateral margins produced posteriorly.
Abdomen 5-segmented, often strongly telescoped. The genital segment and 1st abdominal segment incompletely fused. Paired gonopores are placed ventrolaterally, each covered by an operculum from P6. Anal segment and the caudal rami are densely ornamented with denticles. Caudal rami are about as long as the anal segment and as long as wide, carry 7 setae.
A1 19-segmented, not reaching the posterior margin of the cephalosome.
A2 biramous. Endopodite 3-segmented, exopodite 6-segmented, 1.5 times longer than the 1-st endopodal segment.
Md with stout coxal gnathobase, which is armed with several rows and patches of spinules and denticles. Mandibular palp well developed, biramous. Endopodite 2-segmented, the 2nd segment elongate and carries 8 setae. Exopodite 5-segmented with partial fusion, actually forming 3 segments.
Mx2 5-segmented. Free endopodite 3-segmented.
Mxp slender, 7-segmented.
P1-P4 biramous, both branches 3-segmented. P1 somewhat reduced in size, P3 is the largest. Legs richly ornamented with spinules, setules and denticles, especially on posterior surface.
P5 symmetrical, slender, biramous, with 2 segmented exopodite and 1 segmented endopodite. All segments richly ornamented with spinules, setules and denticles, especially on posterior surface.
Male:
Abdomen 6-segmented. Genital segment typically contains 2 pear-shaped spermatophores. Paired gonopores are located ventrally on the posterior end of the segment.
A1 14-segmented, symmetrical, digeniculate.
Other mouthparts and P1-P4 as in female.
P5 differs from female only in the 3-segmented condition of the exopodite.
