Penaeus monodon is a species of decapods in the family Penaeidae. They are native to Indian Ocean, the Palearctic, Asia, Pacific Ocean, Oceania continent (Australia, NZ and islands), and Ethiopia. They are nocturnal carnivores. Individuals can grow to 35 cm. They have parental care (female provides care). They rely on drag powered swimming and swimming to move around.
