Perna perna (Mexilhao Mussel) is a species of mussels in the family Mytilidae. They are native to Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Sri Lanka, Venezuela, mediterranean region, India, Uruguay, Mozambique, Madagascar, South Africa, and Brazil. Dead Mexilhao Mussel form shallow marine sediments. Adult Mexilhao Mussel form marine reefs. Individuals can grow to 387 mm. They have sexual reproduction. They are sessile animals.
