Aythya affinis (Lesser Scaup) is a species of birds in the family Anatidae. It is associated with freshwater habitat. It is found in Oceania (Australia and islands), the Nearctic, and the Neotropics. Lesser Scaup is a diurnal herbivore. Individuals are known to live for 18.3 years and can grow to 1200 g. Reproduction is dioecious. Lesser Scaup has parental care (only female provides care).
