Watt Park, Lavender Bay, North Sydney.Native of southern and eastern Africa. I have sometimes been struck by the resemblance of its capsules to those of our Australian
Flindersia australis, also in family Rutaceae -- see
www.flickr.com/photos/41188800@N00/354726140/But there are important differences: Calodendrum capsules split open from the base and the seeds are hard, rounded and black; Flindersia capsules open from the apex and the seeds are flattened, winged and brown. Leaves and flowers are also very different.

This beautiful small white flowers are no larger than 1 cm in diameter yet have the most appealing fragrance. The name in Chinese is"Nine-mile fragrance" because in the old days when the air was not so polluted, one can smell their fragrance nine miles away. This photo was taken in the Tsing Yi West Road Park here in Hong Kong.
