Herbaceous climbers. Leaves opposite, simple, usually broadly ovate, large and with a cordate base. Flowers in open branching cymes or panicles. Sepals 5. Corolla usually with a tubular to cylindric lower half, which is usually slightly inflated or bell-shaped; lobes 5, usually connate at tips. Corona (1-)2-seriate, very variable. Anthers ± erect. Follicles terete to fusiform. Seeds winged with an apical tuft of hairs.
