Rhabdomonadine flagellate, colourless, osmotrophic, rigid, cylindrical, curved cells with rounded ends; cell surface shallowly fluted, with 6-8 steeply helical ridges; one emergent flagellum, mobile throughout its length during swimming, held straight when cell is stationary; second flagellum non-emergent; canal opening subapical; paramylon and lipid abundant; no cysts or palmellae; several species freshwater, cosmopolitan, type species R. incurva Fresenius, 1858.
