Lycaste aromatica, common name the sweet scented lycaste, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Lycaste of the family Orchidaceae.
Lycaste aromatica has ovate pseudobulbs, deciduous lanceolate leaves and erect flowered spikes about 15 centimetres (5.9 in) long. Flower are yellow-orange and fragrant, about 7 centimetres (2.8 in) wide. The flowering period extends from late spring through summer. It is a terrestrial orchid growing on mossy branches (epiphyte).
This plant is native to Central America and it is present in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador.
Lycaste aromatica grows on branches with moss, in damp limestone cliffs and in tropical semi-deciduous forests or warm oak forests along streams. It prefers diffused bright light in moist and cool to warm climate, at an altitude of 500–2,000 metres (1,600–6,600 ft) above sea level.

Lycaste aromatica (Graham) Lindl. (1843), es una especie de orquídea de hábito terrestre o epífita. Es originaria de Centroamérica.
Es una especie herbácea de tamaño medio a grande, que prefiere clima fresco a cálido, epífita con ovados y comprimidos pseudobulbos subtendido por vainas fibrosas y que tiene hojas caducas, lanceoladas, acuminadas, con olor a canela, y que florece a fines de primavera-verano, junto con la aparición de un nuevo crecimiento, y puede haber hasta 10 erectas y cortas inflorescencias de 15 cm de altura. Se trata de una planta caducifolia que mantiene las hojas marrones hasta otoño, cuando es el momento de darle menos agua.[1]
Se encuentra sobre ramas con musgo, en lugares húmedos en acantilados de piedra caliza o de vez en cuando terrestres en las zonas tropicales los bosques semideciduos o cálidos bosques de roble en barrancas a lo largo de los arroyos de México, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras y El Salvador en alturas de 500 a 2000 msnm.

リカステ・アロマティカ Lycaste aromatica (R. C. Grah. ex Hook.) Lindl. は、リカステ属のランの一つ。香りがよくこの属のものとしては普及している種である。
多年生の着生植物[1]。落葉性で、開花時には葉がない。偽鱗茎は密集して生じ[2]、卵形でやや扁平、高さ7-8cmで、先端に2ないし3枚の葉をつける。また、偽鱗茎の表面には花後に縦溝を生じる[3]。葉は草質、披針形で長さは40-55cmに達する。葉幅は約10cmで、ひだが多い。
開花期は春で、落葉後の新芽が動くと同時に出る[4]。花茎は偽球形の基部から出て直立し、高さは約15cm。花茎には一つだけ花をつけるが、花茎が一つの偽球形から多数出て、一つの株からは同時に多数の花をつける[5]。花は径6-7cm、蝋質で萼片は黄緑色で花弁は濃黄色。側萼片は水平に伸びる[6]。花は斜め上に向いて咲くので、正面から見ると、唇弁の裏側が見える[7]。
花は香りが強い。ちなみに学名は「香りがある」の意である[8]。

中央アメリカのメキシコ、グアテマラ、ホンジュラスに分布する[9]。高地の雲霧林ではなく、より低い標高のカシ類を主体とする森林に生育する。森林としては乾燥した環境にある[10]。
洋ランの一つとして栽培される。リカステ属では比較的よく普及している種である。 本種は古くから知られた種であり、1826年頃にNeprer により紹介された[11]。
この属には高地性で夏の暑さに弱い種が多い中、本種は低標高の地域に生育するものであり、夏の暑さにも強く、栽培がしやすいものである[12]。また、花はやや小輪ながら多数付ける上、香りがよいのが美点である。その香りは「レモンのような」[13]とも、「ニッキのような」[14]とも、あるいは「癖のある刺激臭と甘い香りをミックスしたような」[15]とも言われるが、要するにすっきりしたよい香りである。
本種そのものが原種として普及もしているが、交配親としてもよく使われる。
