Mauritia flexuosa is a species of tree in the family palms. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Bahia, AmazôNia, Maranhao, Tocantins, Minas Gerais, Pará, Mato Grosso, Ceará, Cerrado, Distrito Federal, GoiáS, Caatinga, RondôNia, Piauí, SãO Paulo, Acre (Brazil), and Mato Grosso Do Sul. They have compound, broad leaves. Individuals can grow to 35 m.
