Commelina benghalensis kom-uh-LEE-nuh -- named for two Dutch botanists: Johan and his nephew Caspar Commelin ben-gal-EN-sis -- of or from Bengal (India); sometimes spelled bengalensis commonly known as: Indian dayflower, tropical spiderwort, wandering Jew • Hindi: kanchara, kanteri, kanuraka, kaua-kaini, केना kena • Kannada: hittagani • Malayalam: kanankolai, kancatam • Marathi: केना or केणा kena • Sanskrit: kanchata, kosapuspi, marishajalaja, paniya, tanduliya, vatspriya • Tamil: adutinna-thalai, கானாங்கோழை kanangkozai • Telugu: nirukassuvu, vennadevikura.. creeping herb with ascending stems.. leaves broadly ovate, up to 5 cm long and 4 cm wide, pubescent, narrowed at base but not distinctly petiolate.. spathe funnel-shaped, about 1-1.4 cm wide, green, flattened.. flowers bright blue.
