Schizachyrium sanguineum (Crimson Bluestem) is a species of perennial herb in the family true grasses. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Roraima, Puerto Rico, Paraná, Tocantins, Eastern North America, Caatinga, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Pampa, Mato Grosso, SãO Paulo, GoiáS, Distrito Federal, Maranhao, Amazônia, Espirito Santo, Rio Grande Do Sul, RondôNia, U.S. Virgin Islands, Pernambuco, Cerrado, Pará, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Rio De Janeiro, Amapá, Mata Atlântica, and The Contiguous United States. They have simple, broad leaves. Individuals can grow to 1.6 m.
