Hamelia patens (Scarletbush) is a species of tree in the family Rubiaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Mata Atlântica, US Minor Outlying Islands, Bahia, Pernambuco, The Contiguous United States, Rio De Janeiro, AmazôNia, Espirito Santo, Puerto Rico, Roraima, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Acre (Brazil), Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso Do Sul, ParaíBa, Pará, GoiáS, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande Do Sul, Caatinga, Pantanal, Cerrado, SãO Paulo, Ceará, Pampa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and RondôNia. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Large Orange Sulphur, Orange-barred Sulphur, Monarch, and Larra bicolor. Individuals can grow to 3.8 m.
