Smilax aspera (Catbrier) is a species of shrub in the family Smilacaceae. They are climbers. They have simple, broad leaves and fleshy fruit. Flowers are visited by Cellophane bees, Melanostoma mellinum, Marmalade hoverfly, and Small black ant. Individuals can grow to 8 m.
