Phormium tenax (New Zealand Flax) is a species of perennial herb in the family Asphodelaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Norfolk Island and New Zealand. They have simple, broad leaves and capsule fruit. Individuals can grow to 2.5 m.
