Carolina mantis - Stagmomantis carolina (Johansson, 1763)The first time I had seen a preying mantis in the wild :) These were flying around quite gracefully for reasonably long periods of time. Praying mantids were scarce this year given the dry conditions. This pregnant beauty was taken in my backyard in 2006. Hope I have better luck finding one next year ;0)
