The holotype of this species (USNM 21006) was collected in Panama from South of Coiba Island (Centroid Latitude: 6.3722, Centroid Longitude: -81.8667), Gulf of Chiriqui, eastern Pacific, by the R. V. Albatross, from a depth of 850 m.
Other specimens of this species in Panama have been collected from off Isla Jacarita (three from 7 11.590 N, 81 51.023 W, depth range 900 to 933 m, one from 7 11.784 N, 81 50.897 W, depth 723 m), Gulf of Chiriqui, eastern Pacific (see Lessios, 2005).
