Опис:

Description: blackbrush, Coleogyne ramosissima, California, Sierra Nevada, Tungsten Hills, Owens Valley drainage, elevation 1580 m (5185 ft). With its opposite leaves and 4 petaloid sepals (and usually lacking petals), blackbrush is one of the odder members of the Rose Family. Its relationships are currently considered to be near two other odd Rosaceae, Kerria and Neviusia. The genus and species is mostly endemic to the Colorado Plateau and the transition zone between the Great Basin and Mojave deserts in the southwestern United States. Where it occurs within this zone, it usually forms extensive dominant stands at middle elevations. The location of this image is near the northwestern limit of the species, where it extends a little farther north into southern Mono County, up to about 7000 feet elevation. While the species forms typical extensive stands on the west side of Owens Valley along the foot slopes of the eastern Sierra Nevada, it appears to be completely absent from the east side of the Valley along the White and Inyo mountains, where the amount and seasonal timing of precipitation is probably insufficient for the species to survive and compete.
