Cycas hainanensis 081230-9022
Description:
Botanic Gardens, Sydney. This is the seed cone on the female plant, before it unfolds. As the seeds develop, the growing point of the plant continues upward through the centre of the cone and the green seedbearing scales (sporophylls) are pushed aside and downward, forming a 'skirt', with the whole group no longer resembling a cone.
