Description: Boophis pyrrhus was first described in 2001 from type specimens collected in Andasibe (www.mvences.de/p/p1/Vences_A29.pdf). Within the rather difficult B. majori group, which comprises ca. 10 species, it is easily distinguished by its typical coloration, as well as by its highly distinctive calls.
