Meet the Alligator Snapper of Blue Springs Econfina

Image of Macrochelys

Description:

Recent flooding meant high water had closed many of my usual spots along Econfina Creek. Fortunately, Blue Springs stayed open, and even though on some days the water was silty, it never browned out. Luckily, I ran into this not so common snapping turtle on a few occasions over the end of September into October.During my initial encounter, it was early in the morning and my camera was having trouble focusing in the low light. To complicate things, in about 8 foot of water, with nothing to hold onto, I couldn't get down close to get an intimate portrait without spooking it. Still, not bad for a first shot, all things considered.Alligator Snapping Turtle Macrochelys temminckii Blue Springs Recreation Area Econfina Creek Water Management Area Northwest Florida Water Management District Washington County, FloridaOlympus OM-D E-M5 Mark IIOlympus 14-42mm II R LensPT-EP13 Underwater Housing, PPZR-EP02 Lens Port & 14-42mm Zoom Gear21 September 2021
