Image of Symbiontida

Description:

Image of dead individual with long spine and surface bacteria separating from the cell. This species has been little reported and is usually presumed to be a euglenid. The cell lacks the pellicular striations that one would expect of a euglenid and is also rigid. Cells varyu in length. It is probably best regarded as 'incertae sedis'. From an anoxic site in the Santa Barbara (California) basin.
