Description:
Apusomonas (a-pews-o-moan-ass), one of two genera of apusomonad flagellates. Moves by gliding with one flagellum projecting from the end of a mastigophore. Apusomonads a have a thick layer or theca. this extends around the base of the anterior flagellum (the edges of it are visible in the image where it folds under the cell). Eats bacteria and detritus. From freshwater and soil habitats. Phase contrast.
