Description:
Heterosigma (het-err-owe-sig-ma) akashiwo, small to medium-sized raphidophyte, with two emergent flagella, anterior flagellum beats with an undulating pattern, posterior flagellum trails. Many small green or yellow green plastids emphasized in this image. No eyespot. Some members of this genus produce toxins. Differential interference microscopy.
