Lipotriches flavoviridisIt is the first time we have seen this particular bee swarm like this. There were two grass heads with bees that had settled. Another two plants had swarms of bees flying around trying to settle but a wasp kept on disturbing them. Photos: Fred
Thanks to John Ascher over at bugguide for the ID.This is the first time I have see a carpenter bee at the front end of the flower, normally they punch a hole in the base of the tube to steal nectar.
