Description: English: Dicranopteris are terrestrial ferns that occupy peat sand or rocky habitats. The tropical fern is usually found in marginal areas with forests, open slopes and road cliffs. Dicranopteris linearis colonizes into dense thickets (3 meters deep) and spreads. The fern grows easily on poorly drained, nutrient-poor soils and in disturbed habitats and steep slopes. It does not tolerate shade, so once established, it will eventually be shaded by higher vegetation if it does not climb above it. It can inhibit the growth of new tree stands, especially when there is a dense thicket.
