Polygala timoutou Aubl. PI. Guian. 737. 1775
Slender erect annual, 8-18 cm. high; stem strongly about 3-angulate-winged; leaves nearly all in whorls of 3 (the uppermost opposite or alternate), oval or obovate, acutish, mucronate, cuneate at base, 4.5-9 mm. long, 3-4 mm. wide; racemes shortly thick-cylindric, dense. very slightly comose at apex, 1-3.8 cm. long, 5-6.5 mm. thick; sepals lanceolate, subacuminate; wings broadly oval, purplish when fresh, greenish in drying, rounded, about 4-nerved, 2.S-4.6 mm. long, 1.8-2.8 mm. wide; keel 2-2.5 mm. long, the crest of 2 lobes on each side; capsule orbicular-ovate, 1.2 mm. long; seed sparsely pubescent, plump, 1.2 mm. long; aril 0.8 mm. long, the 2 lobes oblong.
Type locality: Timoutou, French Guiana. Distribution: Panama and Trinidad to Para, Brazil.
