Description of Calonympha ( anglais )

fourni par BioPedia
Multinucleate flagellates (70-80 µm) with several coronas of akaryomastigonts anterior to 2-3 coronas of karyomastigonts. Each karyo-mastigont comprises four anteriorly directed flagella, no recurrent flagellum or cresta. The axostyles meet together forming a central bundle, which reaches the posterior end. A dot-shaped parabasal is present in each mastigont close to the nucleus. Electron microscopy has shown the trichomonad and devescovinid organization of the mastigont system. One of the three species, C. grassii, lives in Cryptotermes brevis (formerly grassii) of Chile. Light microscopic studies by Janicki (1915) and GrassÚ (1952a), electron microscopic study by Joyon et al. (1969). Type species: Calonympha grassii Foa 1905.
