A tree with twigs, foliage, and inflorescence shortly and densely pilose ; leaves oddpinnate, about 1.5-2 dm. long; leaflets 5, coriaceous, the terminal one with a petiolule 4-5 mm. long, the ultimate pair remote from the terminal one, 5-6 cm. long, 3-4 cm. broad, oblong, obtuse, the base acute, short-petiolulate, the lowest pair oval, 2.5^1 cm. long, 2-2.5 cm. broad, the lateral nerves 7-S, prominent beneath ; panicle terminal, pyramidal, densely flowered, 7-8 cm. long, the lower lateral spikes 3^t cm. long ; pedicels 2 mm. long; pistillate flowers : calyx about 1 mm. long ; sepals 5, broadly ovate, the margin pale, ciliate ; corolla about 2.5 mm. long ; petals 5, oblong, 2.5 times as long as the calyx; disk with a short gynophore ; gynoecium 5-carpellary; style central, terminated by a disk-shaped stigma.
Type locality : Near Tlacolula, Oaxaca.
Distribution : Known only from the type locality.

A tree or shrub (?), the branches leafy toward the ends, unarmed or armed with short straight or recurved prickles 2-3 mm. long ; petioles and rachis narrowly grooved above, glabrous, unarmed, or armed with short prickles ; leaves odd-pinnate, 15-25 cm. or more in length ; leaflets 3-7, oblong-elliptic to elliptic or somewhat obovate, 6-12 cm. long, 2-4.5 cm. broad, obtusely short-acuminate or occasionally rounded at the apex, cuneate at the base, the margin slightly reflexed, entire or crenulate, glabrous, coriaceous, reticulate-veined, lustrous above, paler beneath and black-punctate ; midrib impressed above, prominent beneath ; panicles axillary and terminal, loosely flowered, 5-10 cm. long, the branches in age glabrous or with few scattered hairs ; staminate flowers : stamens 5, equaling the petals ; sepals 5, ovate, acute, 1-1.2 mm. long, 0.8-1 mm. broad ; petals 5, oblong-elliptic or elliptic, 3-3.5 mm. long, 1.5-2 mm. broad; follicles 1-5, the body obovoid, 6-7 mm. long, 4.5-5.5 mm. broad, brown, stipitate, the stipe 4-4.5 mm. long ; seeds elliptic or elliptic-obovoid, 4.5-5 mm. long, black, shining.
