Description :

We found these nocturnal beetles on a blade of red alga in kelp wrack at the high tide level on the beach. They prey on larvae and pupae of kelp flies, amphipods, and other scavengers in the wrack. During the day they burrow into the sand. They can survive brief periods of submersion.
