Eastern Musk Turtle (35369688276) (cropped)

Image de Sternotherus odoratus (Latreille 1802)

Description :

Description: A common defense behavior by some reptiles is the expulsion of smelly fluid from their back ends. This turtle's not-so-glorious name “stinkpot” refers to the odor given off when captured. However, the odor is produced by musk glands in the skin just below the upper shell along the sides instead of from its feces. Photo by Bruce Hallman/USFWS. Date: 19 June 2017, 12:45.
