Description :

Description: Native, warm season, perennial, Tufted herb 60-90 cm tall. Leaves are subterete, 20–60 cm long and 0.5–1 mm diam.; sheathing bases are 5–11 cm long, red to reddish tawny brown or black and often shiny. Flowerheads are obovoid and 9–13 mm long. Outer tepals 3, are brown to blackish brown with golden brown wings. Inner tepals 3, are petaloid and yellow; margins entire. Flowering is from late spring to summer. Found chiefly in coastal districts and on the ranges. Grows in damp or swampy areas, often in heath. Date: 12 September 2009, 12:01. Source: Xyris operculata flower2.
