Description: English: Tasmania, North west, the old-growth Eucalyptus regnans are logged, "vermin" is poisoned, the debris is bull-dozed into lines and burnt. Plantations of Australian hardwood or Pinus radiata are planted. "Vermin" includes potoroos, wallabies, wombats, lyre birds and wedge-tailed eagles. The stumps and tops of the trees are burnt. They are not used for wood-chip. It is the long straight trunks, which in very large trees of over 60 metres, 200 feet are often hollow and knotty, that are wood-chipped. Date: January 2001.
