Description :
Description: This two workers of Formica rufa are engaged in trophallaxis (or mouth-to-mouth food sharing). This behaviour, found across a wide variety of taxa both vertebrate and invertebrate, is thought to have important implications for the evolution of sociality, contributing to the establishment of social bonds by allowing pheromones, symbiont organisms and other molecules to be transferred between conspecifics.
