Description :
Silene petersonii. A medium rare regional endemic. Also called Maguire's campion. Varieties are no longer recognized.The roots of a large shrub (I don't recall what it was) were quite literally serving as a nursery for plants of this species that were growing in, under and around these roots (several dozen at this location).Aug. 9, 2003, Ashdown Gorge Wilderness Area (it was actually just within Cedar Breaks NM), Iron County, Utah. Steep, west-facing slope; elev. approx. 10,420 ft.
