A branching shrub mostly 3 m. tall or less, with paleor reddish-scurfy twigs; leaves numerous, bright-green, the blades thick, elliptic, sometimes narrowly so, to oblong, varying to broadest above or below the middle, mostly 2-7 cm. long, obtuse, reticulate on both sides, shining above, dull and slightly paler beneath, entire, short-petioled; panicles short; calyx 4—5 mm. wide, the lobes usually 5, reniformovate to ovate, acute; corolla white or nearly so, conic-urceolate, 6.5-7.5 mm. long, the lobes broad, much shorter than the tube; filaments 4—5 mm. long, very slender above the dilated bases, nearly glabrous; anthers about 1 mm. long; capsules ovoid, 5-6 mm. long, the ribs very prominent.
Type i,ocality: Jamiaca. Distribution: Jamaica.
