Scorpaenopsis diabolus és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels escorpènids.[5]

Descripció

  • Fa 30 cm de llargària màxima.[6][7]

Hàbitat

És un peix marí, associat als esculls de corall i de clima tropical (32°N-26°S) que viu entre 1-70 m de fondària.[6][8]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba des del mar Roig i l'Àfrica oriental fins a les illes Hawaii, la Polinèsia francesa, el sud del Japó, la Gran Barrera de Corall i Nova Caledònia.[6][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41]

Costums

És bentònic i, sovint, s'enterra parcialment al fons marí.[42][43]

Observacions

És verinós per als humans, ja que pot causar lesions doloroses amb el seu fibló.[6][44][45]
